This is an open invitation to all BAMM members to take part in BAMM's upcoming exhibition entitled 'Urban Symbiosis - the Art of Urban Living' in Newport, south Wales. Members are invited to submit up to 2 pieces of mosaic work, 30cm x 30cm in size (including any frame). It is intended that all works will be for sale.

The exhibition forms part of a wider event inspired by the mosaics of celebrated artists (father and son) Kenneth and Oliver Budd, some of which will also be on display at the same time as our members' exhibition. Their works document everyday life and the myriad rich connections that exist within our towns and cities. Your proposal should respond (directly or indirectly) to the Budd mosaics, either in terms of style, choice of material, subject matter or some other way.

This theme can be interpreted in its widest sense. Pieces could explore connections with people, wildlife, plants, nature or weather; with architecture, transport, work or homes; or with hopes, dreams or delights. They could express how you have been influenced or affected by an urban environment or reflect your personal response to urban surroundings in some way. Your inspiration could come from heritage, culture, architecture, urban green spaces or industry but your mosaic should tell a story about a personal moment or urban interaction of some kind.

The members' exhibition will run for approximately one month, alongside the Budd exhibition, in the Gallery space at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre. The opening event will be held on Friday 4th October, 7.30pm - 9.00pm.

Any works sold will be subject to 20% commission charged by the gallery + a small bank transaction fee, so please build this into your sale price.

Please create your piece on 10-12mm plywood/mdf or wedi-type board if unframed. If framed, please ensure this will allow for the attachment of the mirror plates, other hanging fittings should not be included.

Overall measurements must be 30cm x 30cm, inclusive of frames if they have one (they do not need to be framed). Please finish all raw edges with a layer of cement or other edging to ensure that it is suitable for a public space and that there are no sharp protrusions.

Mosaics made on plywood/mdf will have mirror plate fixings attached directly.

Mosaics made on wedi-type board will be glued to a piece of plywood, to allow the mirror plates to be fixed.

To submit your work

Please complete an application form for each artwork and pay the submission fee(s) before sending your work to us.

Delivering your work

Please note that BAMM’s public liability insurance does not cover your work, either in transit or during the exhibition. Artists should make their own arrangements to insure their work against damage or loss.
