WIA Gallery run by women, for women. Discrimination in the art world exists. Women artists have been undervalued, ignored and sidelined for too long. WIA Gallery will change this, one exhibition at a time!

Want to see your work in WIA Gallery? Apply now for our first WIA Winter Open Exhibition. We want to see painting, prints, collage, ceramics, textile, sculpture, film, video and sound art, on the theme of 'The Dreaming'.

This show will exhibit the 25 best works submitted. The deadline for applications is midnight, 30 September 2023. The exhibition will take place from 1 December 2023 to 6 January 2024, WIA Gallery, Lewes and a panel of judges will pick a winner from the works exhibited.

Prizes!

Up to 25 pieces will be selected to show in the exhibition. 

Judges Panel winner will be offered a solo show at the gallery.

The 'people's winner' to be chosen by visitors to the show, will receive a cash prize of £100.

All work selected for the exhibition will be for sale in the gallery and on the gallery online shop.

Artists can submit up to 5 pieces and the submission fee is £12.50 per work. 

Each work should be no larger than 1m square for wall based works and sculptures should fit a 40cm x 40cm base and no higher than 1.5m high. Works can be any configuration within those measurements.

Collection date: on or before 10 January 2024 by arrangement.


Terms and Conditions of Entry:

There are no restrictions based on age, nationality, or training. 

Artists can submit up to 5 different artworks, of any medium.

The artist must be the owner and creator of the works submitted and hold all rights.

By submitting the entry form, the artist agrees that if their artwork is selected for the shortlisted exhibtion, they will provide the original artwork selected. We will not accept an alternative piece if the work is no longer available. A maximum of 5 artworks per artist may be entered into the competition. Please submit one image of each work to be submitted. The artist agrees that this image may be used by WIA Gallery for reasonable marketing purposes.

WIA Gallery will not be liable for any loss or damage to any artworks in transit.

The artist accepts that all work submitted will be for sale until the end of the exhibition, and WIA Gallery will take a commission of 40%. WIA Gallery will take payment from the buyer of the artwork and, once payment is received, WIA Gallery will pay the artist minus the stated commission on the total sale price.

Once registered for this competition, the artist agrees that WIA Gallery and wearewia.com may reproduce the work (at no fee) for marketing purposes, at no point will the gallery re-produce prints of any works for sale, unless with expressive written acknowledgement from the artist. 

Entrants agree to be added to our mailing list for future emails and newsletters but can unsubscribe at any time. 

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT REFUND ENTRANTS THAT DO NOT MAKE IT TO THE FINAL STAGES OF JUDGING OR EXHIBIT WITH US. YOUR ENTRY FEE IS USED TO FUND THIS AWARD AND PROMOTE THE WINNERS OF THIS COMPETITION.

How do you decide on proposals?
Applications will be reduced to a long list of up to 100 works, from which a short-list of 25 will be chosen to be exhibited in the gallery. A panel of industry professionals will then choose the overall winner from these 25. During the exhibition a 'people's choice' winner will be chosen by visitors.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
All applicants will be informed by 5pm on 8 October 2023 if they have been chosen for the exhibition or not. If chosen, the artist should organise delivery of the work to the gallery to be received 28-29 November 2023.
