ZINE OPEN CALL: and still I rise

Calling all women and women-identifying artists working within the photographic medium.

After a year of catastrophic attacks on women's rights and gender equality, SOLA Journal will publish a collaborative zine that platforms artists who make conceptual and experimental work that talks to the issues of women's rights, womanhood, motherhood, bodily autonomy etc. If this is you then please submit your work to this zine open call!

Submission Guidelines

- You MUST be following @sola_journal on Instagram
- Send us a selection of images, max 10, that respond to the theme 'and still I rise'
- Alongside an artist statement and a description of your work including how it relates to the title
- Include your website and any relevant social media links

DEADLINE: Midnight on 23rd December 2022.

Selected artists will have their work published in a physical zine. This open call is free to enter, however, artists who are selected will be asked to pay a fee of £10 to go towards the production of the zines. All selected artists will receive a free copy, a percentage of each sale will go towards a charity supporting women’s rights, and all profit made from zine sales will go directly back into SOLA Journal and towards future projects.

(Title comes from Maya Angelou’s poem ‘Still I Rise', which is not only a feminist proclamation of her determination to rise above society but also a call to others to rise above the restraints of our contemporary society.)
