The Old Lock Up Gallery

The Old Lock Up Gallery is a commercial contemporary art gallery situated on the edge of the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District.

An intimate and quirky space that celebrates art & creativity! The gallery opened in the Summer of 2017 and we have become well known accross the UK. Our hallmark of outstanding quality and art that expresses our shared humanity is something that we are proud of. We exhibit all disciplines of art, ceramics and sculpture.

All of our exhibitions are group shows - artists are selected via open calls for submissions. The exhibitions frequently explore a theme relating to our humaness.. we explore arts ability and power to express shared experiences, to touch others and to make us feel alive. We have approx 7-8 exhibitions a year - which includes an annual Open during February/March and a Secret Postcard Show in the late Summer.

On the groundfloor of the building is an additional small space called 'The Bothy' which displays ceramics, artisan crafts and jewellery.

We also have a artist residency programme, and a programme of creative workshops and mindfulness events/courses.

The galleries director is Rachael Pinks whose curated and exhibited other artists work since 2012, and has also run 2 art galleries. The Old Lock Up Gallery started out as Rachaels art studio in 2011, her background is in Arts Therapies - having a BA Hons in Arts Therapies - which she studied in 1998. Rachael is a Creative Expressive Practitioner and a accredited Mindfulness Teacher - these disciplines are woven into the values and ethos of the gallery.
