CuratorSpace Artist Bursary #25: Kayleigh Peters
Kayleigh Peters is a visual artist and facilitator. Her work focuses on themes of health, wellbeing and connection to earth and nature through the lens of her personal experience of living with hidden illness.
"The 'Defective Goddesses' project blends contemporary ceramics, clay drawings, and textiles to connect themes of poorly researched illnesses with historical myths and legends. This ongoing body of work explores how historical narratives have shaped society's understandings of what should remain hidden and who has the power to create change.
Using innovative ceramic techniques, incorporating self-developed glaze recipes and screen printing, the project challenges traditional notions of imperfection by creating and embracing 'defective' surfaces. Through these creative methods, the 'Defective Goddesses' project opens up conversations about health, equality, and representation.
The project will culminate in 2025 with a public programme designed to actively engage audiences in exploring its central themes. By encouraging community participation, 'Defective Goddesses' aims to create dialogue about health, gender bias, and reclaiming narratives of chronic illness."
