Stewart Watson Greater London, United Kingdom
I am a woman identifying American artist currently living and working in Surrey with a right to work in the UK. I have significant experience mounting site specific exhibitions and collaborating with communities and museums, and look forward to creating site responsive installation and small interventional artworks.
My work tends to employ family objects, historical narratives, relationships, and foregrounding underrepresented people, looking for intersections and shared spaces in the lives lived by our ancestors with the lives we are living now. Recreating and recontextualizing become the connecting part of building a presence from the past, a narrative for the now and into the future. I have focussed my practice to work with and in diverse communities both nationally and internationally having previously run a large artist studio, gallery, and community space in the USA alongside my own art practice for many years. I look forward to connecting with new and diverse communities to create engaging and memorable exhibition experiences. I create installations in museums, galleries, and public sites for community based and research projects, gathering knowledge of the textured past of communities and places, meeting people where they are, developing relationships and identifying local people to collaborate, inspire, or participate on projects. I have participated in over 100 curated exhibitions creating temporary and permanent works and installations for galleries, museums, and historic sites.
