Ieuan Edwards Kent, United Kingdom
I am a self taught illustrator and printmaker, focusing primarily on relief printing using the reduction linocut technique. I am self taught and launched my practice, The Black Gold Press, in 2013.
I am primarily engaged with producing small editions of highly detailed linocut prints.
My heritage lies in the mining communities of South Wales. My collier grandfather retired to the Kentish seaside due to ill health caused by his job. Although I work across a variety of subjects, my main interest is in a comparison of the architecture of our industrial heritage alongside the machinery of the fairground. The story of my family in representations of girders, cogs and rivets. Produced in the same factories but ending up fulfilling very different needs.
My work has appeared in shows across the UK, Australia and the USA . My Lewis Merthyr Winding Gear print, completed as part of a residency at the Workers Gallery in the Rhondda in South Wales, was selected for the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers "The Masters" relief print show in 2019.
I also take on private commissions, both in fine art printmaking and illustration work. Key illustration clients have included the renowned creative consultancy Stylorouge and the BBC and I have produced images for album covers and music merchandise for a number of high profile artists. .
