I Ƭ Z Λ Ƭ N Λ / ITZATNA Arts are an emerging artist collective that cultivates creative intercultural collaborations between artists, audiences, and diaspora communities between Mexico, Latin America, and the UK.
Established by the father-son artist duo Alfredo Hau (Visual Artist & Professional Chef) and Sebastian H-W (Live Artist & Theatre-Maker), ITZATNA Arts Collective cultivate radical, decolonial, and cross-disciplinary approaches to creating cutting-edge intercultural projects that combine theatre, performance, and live art, alongside socially engaged outreach arts workshops, dinners, and residencies.
Currently, our collective artistic research and projects explore ‘Food Art’ in contemporary theatre, performance, and live art. Through the collaboration with our artistic director and head chef Alfredo Hau, we create multimedia, multisensory live and installed experiences that tell complex global stories. Artistic works that use food as a medium can be representational and express emotions metaphorically, as according to art critic Carolyn Korsmeyer, it can provide a perspective on what it symbolises.
This spring/summer 2022 we will be opening up ‘CASA ITZATNA’ - a pop-up cafe, gallery, and community garden at our collective HQ in Birmingham (UK), to host communal dinners, outdoor film screenings, live performances, and more.
ITZATNA are a non-profit collective based in Birmingham/West Midlands (UK), who have presented projects in the UK and the EU, including Friction Arts/The Edge (Birmingham), Coffin Works (Birmingham) Coventry Artspace, ]performance s p a c e [ (London), Sarean Centro Cultural (Bilbao), and MeinBlau Galerie at Month of Performance Art (Berlin), among others.
