The CuratorSpace Artist Bursary scheme is to support artists in maintaining their art practice. Six bursaries of £250 will be awarded.

Please tell us about your project and its ambitions, as well as how the bursary will help you to maintain your practice.

We understand that this award may only support an aspect of the project, such as your time, materials, equipment, or travel. That said, we are more interested in hearing about the project as a whole rather than how you would spend the money.

Eligibility

Bursaries are only available to artists with a CuratorSpace Artist or Artist Plus subscription. If artists are applying as a partnership or collective, then at least one of them should have an Artist or Artist Plus subscription.

To subscribe:

Go to https://www.curatorspace.com/about/pricing and click the Subscribe button underneath the Artist or Artist Plus section.

Artists can apply from anywhere in the world. Applications must be provided in English.

Applications are accepted from a range of practices including drawing, painting, sculpture, illustration, printmaking, photography, film, video, applied art, live art, social art practice, etc. Please message to enquire if you are unsure whether you are eligible.

Funds can be used towards the production of new works, costs associated with research and development, or the purchase of materials or equipment in relation to your project.

Students are eligible to apply.

Unfortunately, we cannot currently support applications that are solely performing arts or creative writing focused. This includes music and theatre. Applications that incorporate these media in a contemporary art context will be considered.

We also cannot support anything that isn't specifically part of an art project. Therefore we cannot award funds for general equipment or materials purchases, or to provide workshops, where this is not part of a participatory project.

Judging Criteria

When assessing proposals, judges refer to 5 different criteria. These are: Originality of approach, Relevance to practice, Clear objectives, Impact on professional development, and Barriers to practice. Please base your proposal around these criteria.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is 31st December 2023.  A decision will be made by the end of January 2024 and all applicants will be informed of the outcome.

Outcomes

As the bursary is for maintaining art practice, there does not need to be a defined outcome for the bursary. However, if the successful applicants are interested, we can support them in creating a follow-up article on the site about any outcomes they created as a result of the bursary.

Award

Each award will be made in full on receipt of an invoice from the artist after being accepted.

Previous winners

Previous applicants can apply again, but previous winners are not eligible to apply for 12 months after their award, ie. artists selected in July can apply again from the following August.

Details of some of the previous winners can be found at https://www.curatorspace.com/about/bursary-winners

Please note: CuratorSpace receives no external funding. However, we have always been committed to redistributing our profits to support the artist community and will continue to do so.
