We are looking for a Leeds based mural/graffiti artist with a socially engaged practice to work with Harehills Primary School to create and install a vibrant mural design for the external walls of a small community building in Harehills. The selected artist will be awarded £1500 to deliver the project. Deadline for submissions is midnight Monday 21st April.

We are looking for an artist to develop a concept and design that will be based around Harehills as a community and what it represents to the people who live there.

Harehills is an amazing, culturally diverse area, and we want this to be represented on the walls of our building, called Fusion 8.

Fusion 8 is a new partnership project being delivered by Places for People (a housing association) and West Yorkshire Police.

Places for People are working with the Police to bring the building back into use as a Community School Uniform Exchange shop and contact point for the Police.

The artist will be working with Harehills Primary School to generate designs based around the children's ideas about what Harehills means to them, and their proposal should include consideration of how they will work with the school and its pupils to achieve this.

Harehills Primary School is a multi-cultural, diverse primary school in the centre of Harehills with an average year group size of 90 pupils, and an approximate school population of around 600.

Selection Process

The artist will be selected by a representative of Places for People, West Yorkshire Police and children on the school council on the basis of the proposal they feel will best represent the Harehills community.

Artists will be informed of the decision by 2nd May.

Once the artist has been informed of selection, they will be put in touch with the school to arrange the school engagement element of the project.

Anticipated project start date: the beginning of June.

Proposed design(s) (post engagement with the school) to be approved by the project partners before installation.

Project completion date: anticipated 4th July.
