The Halpern Gallery invites artists to submit work to an exhibition responding to the theme ‘taste’, taking place at The Halpern Pop in Rochester. We welcome all interpretations of the theme: from food inspired, to concepts of good/bad taste, to sensations. All disciplines considered.

This is a free-to-enter open call, and only successful artists will pay a fee of £20 to participate.

The exhibition will be curated by artist and gallery assistant Vanessa Crew, and a limited number of works will be selected for the show.

Please submit up to two pieces digitally for consideration by 1st April.

Selected artists will be notified no later than 5th April.

There will be a 25% commission on sales made at the exhibition.

The Halpern Gallery is part of Medway arts organisation Nucleus Arts, founded by the Halpern Charitable Foundation.

They own three exhibition venues: The Halpern Gallery in Chatham, The Halpern Pop in Rochester, and MedwayArtBox in Rochester.

Are there payments to artists?
No. Artists can sell their work through the gallery during the exhibition, with a 25% commission to Nucleus Arts on any sales.

How do you decide on chosen work?
Work will be selected by a small judging panel, including Vanessa.
We will be looking for original and interesting responses to the theme, high-quality presentation and cohesion among all selected pieces. The gallery is a small space, so we are limited to what we can include.
What happens if my work is chosen?
We will contact you via email no later than 5th April with the details of the chosen work/s. Information about the participation fee, delivery and hanging requirements will be included.
What kind of work are you looking for?
All 2D or 3D disciplines are considered, responding to the theme taste. We are interested in the artists' interpretation of the theme, so the work could be anything from a sensation, food to ideas of good or bad taste.
