    Originally from South London, Julie is a conceptual Fine Art artist now residing in Bournemouth, England. Transitioning from the work force after a severe illness, she has since graduated with a First Class, Fine Art (Hons) degree in 2022 and a Distinction in MA Painting in 2023, at Arts University Bournemouth.

    My work is founded on a preference for geometry, contrasts of lightness/shadow and concealment/disclosure all realised through principally minimal monochromatic paintings, prints and drawings I studied at Northampton School of Art, Maidstone College of Art, the Slade and University of Wales, Cardiff. I have been a lecturer at Maidstone & Hereford Colleges of Art and University of Wolverhampton.

    Julie Dawson/Gledhill is a retired teacher of Art and Design Technology. She was born and still resides in Wakefield West Yorkshire. Julie is a keen photographer and uses her camera to inspire her art. One of Julie’s favourite places to visit is the Yorkshire coast and this is reflected in her work.     Who am I? A question I will always struggle with. I have two sides- my feminine and my masculine . My routes of action films and sci-fi has merged with my love for glamour, pop culture, costume and character. The questioning of identity and gender within myself and society has led way to a desire to explore this and other social topics through my work. Society is my biggest inspiration.

    After an initial career as a Systems Analyst, I took a career break, to raise a family, I studied Visual Arts (Salford University), 2004, then an M.A. in Textiles/Fashion (Manchester Metropolitan University) 2005. I have a studio at Rogue Artists’ Studios CIC, Manchester. My work has been exhibited widely. I received an ACE DYCP grant in 2021 for my project, ‘We View Things Differently Now'.
