    Born in Cape Town, South Africa, I was moving countries from an early age. Much of my childhood was spent in the Middle East and later England for boarding school. Living in between cultures and diverse landscapes has heavily influenced my work. I have settled in rural Gloucestershire, UK, where I use my practise to respond to my surroundings, mainly through photography, film and print making.

    Lo graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2009 with a Ba(Hons) in Fine Art. She has since been writing, drawing and working in Leeds with her cat and number one fan, Moo. She works as an independent Illustrator and is one half of the creative duo, Lo & Vee. Together they run a regular art class and have had success with their large, detailed, painted murals.

    Emma's contemporary oil paintings are a fusion of atmosphere, experiment and memory. She draws upon memories of a time and an emotion to overlay into the overall sense of place, capturing the connectivity and the beauty of nature and its calming influence. She is constantly thinking about colours, contrast and composition and how to create movement and texture in her work.

    Returning after a ten year sabbatical raising my two young daughters, I work in textiles, wood and ceramics - creating retrospective pieces which resonate with the threads that hold us together, the buoys that keep us afloat, objects and people that keep us grounded, the baggage that we carry, and the voids within our hearts we attempt to fill with other things.

    The majority of my work is an experiment. I usually think of the process of making as play - exploring materials that I have to hand, including light, and watching where they take me.

    I am a painter, educator and scholar. I live and work in Bristol (SW England) and St Davids (SW Wales). I am not a ‘landscape painter’, but my abstract work is informed by both these environments. I am 66, and have one son. I live with my partner and work from home. My studio practice involves close attention to working as locally and sustainably as possible.
