    I am an artist specialising in embroidery, and a qualified teacher, regularly holding workshops in the North of England. However, I am open to expanding my base of workshop locations, and am also seeking a retail/studio space. My work is based within the heading of Folk Art and Arts & Crafts, and I mainly embroider with knitting wool, making it achievable for absolute beginners and beyond.

    My work is founded on a preference for geometry, contrasts of lightness/shadow and concealment/disclosure all realised through principally minimal monochromatic paintings, prints and drawings I studied at Northampton School of Art, Maidstone College of Art, the Slade and University of Wales, Cardiff. I have been a lecturer at Maidstone & Hereford Colleges of Art and University of Wolverhampton.

    I am a self taught artist with a long love of cartooning which is evident in my quirky design style and use of bright colours and bold lines. Australian born but now based in North Devon, the dramatic coastline is an important source of my inspiration. I use a variety of printmaking and digital design techniques to create my artwork and surface pattern designs.

    I have worked in an arts, culture and education environment since graduating with a BA (Hons) Fine Art in 1986, followed by an MA in 1999. As a practicing artist I have had studios across the North of England, exhibited at a number of galleries and have my work in various private collections.

    Julie Dawson/Gledhill is a retired teacher of Art and Design Technology. She was born and still resides in Wakefield West Yorkshire. Julie is a keen photographer and uses her camera to inspire her art. One of Julie’s favourite places to visit is the Yorkshire coast and this is reflected in her work. Julie has sold her artwork around the world. Holding a BA Hons degree in fine art.
