    Based in the UK East Midlands, I became a full time artist in 2019. Semi abstract in nature, my work combines a fine art background and a long held fascination with wood in all forms. Sustainability underpins my practice; resource management and contributing to art communities is very important to me.     Before re-emerging as a photography artist my background was in furniture painting, fashion, and family shoots. I am self taught and have no formal education in art. I am inspired by the beautiful West Sussex countryside where I live, and my fascination for trees and architecture. I am a mother to two teenagers, living a quiet life with my rescue lurcher and a dark sense of humour!

    As a sculptor/installation artist, I weld, weave, wrap or ravel steel wire into most of my work. Routes, boundaries and voids created help me understand connections and liminality. The wire is manipulated into weightless ethereal structures, barely visible yet imposing. With the involvement of my body and the inclusion of light, space, movement and sound, uncanny immersive environments emerge.

    My practice is muti-disciplinary but a unifying starting point for most of my work is print or collage. I am an artist and educator interested in the social applications of art. I like to create work that is playful and invites interaction in some way. Ritual, play, wonder, performance, perceptions of reality and imagined narratives are all important themes within my practice.

    Jane Took is a British Artist painting in oils based on the beautiful Yorkshire Coast at Filey. A Farmers daughter the local flora and fauna provide inspiration for much of her work which is highly realistic often mistaken as being photographic.
