    I'm an artist and writer who specialises in photographic engagement with the natural world, particularly the cultural significance of heritage trees. I'm currently a practice-based PhD student at the University of Brighton, conducting research on how interaction with the concept of plant intelligence can help deepen creative engagements with trees and the wider natural world.

    I trained as a sculptor at Kingston University and Chelsea College of Art, U.A.L. I have taught drawing at the City Lit, at Camberwell College of Art and the University of Hertfordshire and have held residencies at the Drawing Centre at Wimbledon Art College, the Geography Departments of Royal Holloway, University of London, and Exeter University, amongst others.

    I grew up in Zambia, studied Classics and Education at St. Mary’s University in London, and later graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a B.A. Honours in Fine Art. As teacher and artist, my interests have often overlapped. I have exhibited in many English and European cities, as can be seen in my CV on this website.     I am an artist predominately concerned with post war architecture, it's inherent ideology, aesthetics, structural forms and the effects it has upon its inhabitants. I explore these themes in sculpture, photography, painting, installation and print in order to broaden and investigate related ideas.

    My motivation often comes from the challenge of transforming and exploiting objects then trying to give them new uses. I enjoy keeping the original object recognisable so then it has a dual personality. Many of my projects and products have been interactive, in a residency last year I was able to create larger pieces using rope and objects that people could interactive and play with.

    Dr Sally Bailey is a full-time painter/writer/researcher based in Birmingham. She completed her Fine Art MA at the Birmingham School of Art in 2016, and her practice-led PhD in 2021. Bailey’s painting practice acknowledges the traditions and past histories of painting, but is not bound by a formal approach.

    I’m a textile artist using the ancient craft of feltmaking and other fabrics to create unique, organic designs. I’m inspired by the natural world, by subverting traditional forms and putting my own ideas into practice. I think my insight into the human psyche through my experience as a psychotherapist is also something that I bring into my work.
