She completed an MA in Printmaking from the RCA in 2002, for which she received a thesis distinction. She won an Erasmus Award to Berlin, and has had several residences in Iceland. She has exhibited in London, Japan and Portugal.

She completed a BA(Hons) Design: Ceramics Arts Degree from Staffordshire University in 1998 and set up her first studio with the help of The Princes Trust. During this time Nicola also painted and sold work at galleries. After a break to raise her family, Nicola returned to making and exhibiting in 2016 building a new garden studio.
